Our infrastructure is aging. City Council readily, almost gleefully, admits that there’s a $2B infrastructure deficit in our city. There are over 500km of Asbestos Cement water mains in Regina, much of it nearing or passing its expected end of life.
The severe cold is breaking twice as many water mains as usual this February.
Perhaps a greater scandal than the lack of urgency undertaken by our political leaders to replace our water supply pipes with proven safe materials, is the low number of political overseers alarmed by the inaction on a public health issue.
